AVN, also called osteonecrosis, is the death of bone tissue caused by a disruption in its blood supply.
Understanding AVN
AVN (also called osteonecrosis) is the death of bone tissue caused by a disruption in its blood supply.
Left untreated, it can lead to tiny bone fractures and eventual joint collapse, most often in the hip, though the knee, shoulder, ankle and hand can also be affected.

- High cholesterol/fat deposits blocking blood flow to the bone
- Increased pressure within the bone
Symptoms of AVN

- Joint pain that starts with weight-bearing activity and later occurs even at rest
- Pain in the groin, thigh or buttock for hip AVN
