Understanding Back Pain

Back Pain
(Katishoola)

Back pain is discomfort anywhere along the spine, from the neck to the lower back. It can range from a mild, dull ache to sharp pain that limits everyday movement.

What Is Back Pain?

Understanding Back Pain

Back pain is discomfort anywhere along the spine, from the neck to the lower back. It can range from a mild, dull ache to sharp pain that limits everyday movement, and is one of the most common reasons patients seek treatment.

In Ayurveda, back pain (Katishoola) is closely linked to an aggravated Vata dosha, which governs movement and the nervous system.

Seek timely evaluation: if pain radiates down the leg with numbness or weakness, prompt medical evaluation is important.

Frequently Asked Questions

Back Pain Treatment FAQs

Back pain can be caused by muscle or ligament strain, poor posture, a sedentary lifestyle, being overweight, age-related wear of the spine, or an injury. In Ayurveda, it is closely linked to an aggravated Vata dosha.
Not always. Sciatica is pain that radiates from the lower back down the leg, usually because a nerve in the lower spine is being compressed. It is one possible presentation of back pain, not a separate condition on its own.
At ANHRC, back pain is managed through an Ayurvedic Panchakarma-based programme, with no cuts, injections, or operation involved. Suitability depends on the severity of the condition, assessed by the doctor.
The standard in-hospital programme runs for 7 days, with a maximum duration of 7–8 days. Therapy is given twice daily under the doctor's supervision.
Each package includes 14 therapy sessions, 1 month of Ayurvedic medicine, and hospital accommodation (General Ward or Private Room, AC/Non-AC).
Yes. ANHRC regularly admits patients from across India for this inpatient programme. The hospital is located in Kanpur, and the full course, including stay and therapy, is completed on-site.
If pain persists beyond a few days, radiates down the leg, or comes with numbness or weakness, it's best to get evaluated rather than wait it out.
